As many of our long-term supporters know, we had some issues with our website. It was hacked, pirated, whatever you want to call that, but we no longer had control of the website. Multiple attempts and more money than we could afford later, we met with frustration after frustration but still no website was recovered. Our domain name had been put up for sale and the actual website had been wiped of all but our record of existence with our server host. This began a long and frustrating journey to recover our online presence.
It became increasingly clear in October that it was beyond Roy and Myra‘s scope and skill set to recover and maintain the website on an ongoing basis in an ever-changing technological world. We were forced to call in some help.
Meet Kimberly Johnson. Her brother was born deaf and the family’s attempts to insure communication and inclusion for her brother have equipped her uniquely with the skills required to serve on our team. She learned sign language at a very early age and understands the Deaf community. She was a leader in our congregation at Pathways Deaf Church for many years and in January of 2023 committed to join Latin Deaf Service, Inc as our full-time website administrator and support coordinator.
Kimberly, along with some volunteer help she recruited, has recovered the domain name and is in process of rebuilding the website.
Kimberly will also be training teams who are planning a missions trip to Guatemala to prepare them for the unique challenges of working with the Deaf who have little or no sign skills as well as directing mission team members who wish to participate in the music performances on these trips.
Kimberly is equipped to live full-time in her self-converted bus and is able to travel to churches throughout the United States to share the vital work of Latin Deaf Services, Inc. Please feel free to reach out to her at Kimberly@latindeafservicesinc.com to schedule a visit to your church, civic or corporate organization.
